After months of preparation, the Finance committee brought our chapter’s

inaugural walkathon, Friends of Massis Run/Walk, to fruition on Saturday

November 1st, at Woodley Park.  Over 200 attendees participated and

enjoyed performances by Hamazkayin’s Pasadena Lori Dance Group,

Lilia Dance Group and Hye Katch Do.  The rain that had started early

in the morning seemed to energize the participants and reinforce their

resolve to support Massis chapter’s youth programs and its ultimate

goal of acquiring a gym in the future.

The event was made possible by the cumulative efforts of all of our committees.

The Scout Council’s flag ceremony marked the beginning of the event, followed

by a stretching and warm-up session led by Talin Titizian.  Participants braved

the adverse weather and ran/walked a 5-kilometer trail in scenic Balboa Park.

We were honored to have among our walkers, the 33rd Navasartian Games

Honorary President’s wife, Baydzar Thomasian and her beautiful daughter Soseh.

The Social Committee members took charge of the food booth and kept

busy selling healthy and delicious Armenian foods.  Because of the weather,

the band VISA opted to sign autographs and to get to know their fans.

Mr. Harout Kahvejian was the first runner to reach the Finish line, followed

by Mr. Sevan Terterian, Mr. Ara Hagopian and Mrs. Maral Bastilian.  All runners

and walkers were greeted with flower leis.

The atmosphere was uniquely magical and festive.  The event was greeted by

positive feedback and enthusiasm for the possibilities it presents to our chapter.

Everyone expressed their approval of the event and acknowledged that it is in

keeping with our athletic organization. The event was rapped up with the promise

of a bigger and better repeat next year, when we all come together to celebrate

our chapter’s thirtieth anniversary.

My personal thanks to my colleagues in the Finance Committee, our secretary

Silva Armoudikian, our treasurer Cindy Kirkorian, our accountant Raffi Ganoumian,

and our advisors Garo Hovannisian esq. and Dr. Tamar Kaloustian.

      Katia Karageuzian, Finance Committee Chairperson
